Default Fork boot install, help...

I just got a set of daystar fork boots for my 05 fxdxi and im gonna pull the forks today to put em on. Just wondering how you guys have seen it done, easiest way to me looks to be to just run the top under the lower tree and when you clamp it back down BINGO youve got your fork boots installed. Will this decrease the "holding power" of the lower trees? Will this chew up thr top of the fork boot, being pinched and all?

How have you guys seen it done in the past?
Anyhelp is appreciated
Thanks in advance

You don't mean your going to try and clamp the boots between the trees and tubes, do you? No; don't do that.....I used the Kawasaki 650 boots and they have a light clamp that holds them just under the bottom tree...

I wouldn't think that would even work (not enough clearance) ... I presume DITW meant pulling them up flush against the lower surface of the triple tree ....

... well, after re-reading the post, I may be wrong about what he meant ....

I still do not believe it would even be possible ....

If there isn't a clamp to hold the circumference of the fork boot around the upper fork tube, I would suggest either an exhaust-type clamp or maybe even just go with a 'zip-tie' to keep the top of the rubber boot from moving ....

I haven't seen exhaust clamps in black; but, you could probably just hit them with some rattle can flat black spray and they would become invisible ....

thanks guys for the advice, i guess ill just get 'em on, and see what i can come up with to hold 'em up. The zip ties sound like a good idea, ill just have to try it.

The Kawasaki W650 clamps are black and discreet; if you're going to order them, the screws are seperate...I also used a light smear of weatherstrip adhesive on the bottoms of the boots...

So besides weatherstrip adhesive what else have you guys used to glue these things? I read through pretty much every fork gaitor thread last night and couldn't find much ... other than one guy used hairspray and another had used some sort of automotive adhesive, can't remember the exact name right now. I think I heard loctite mentioned once too. Would loctite work? I have a tube of blue lying in my box right now. Or how bout crazy glue?

Although it might work okay to cut the fork boots on the seam and glue them back together, I think the better method would be to just lift the front end of your bike ... slide the fork tubes out and slide the boots down over the top of the sliders ... then just reinstall the sliders into the triple trees and you're back in business ....

Use some type of clamps to secure them at the upper and lower edges ... wouldn't worry too much about using adhesive ... might help marginally ....

yeah I already slid the forks out the trees and got the boots on, no problems there. The boots came with a set of zip ties that I'm gonna use ... I was thinking that some type of adhesive would help to keep them from sliding around on me
