Default Bracket Difference

Why does that bracket hat FXD2003Rider has differ from the one that 97Dyna has for sale?

As you can see from both images, the difference is caused by the way the speedo and tacho connectors are mounted. Apparently 1997 speedo & tacho differ from the more recent years models...

Now I'm not sure if it will work, my gauges look more like the ones from FXDRider's console

IMO they will work; take a close look at both images and you'll notice the "1997 bracket" is mounted upside down compared to the one I have. Mine hase an extra space cut out where the speedo plug is. You could modify the "1997 bracket" using a dremel or hack saw...

Those brackets are a bitch to find. I don't know why they are considered obsolete and the rest of the parts for the conversion are not. I tried as many salvage yards as I could find and luckily found a whole assembly on ebay. I had to buy the speedo and tach just to get the bracket. All the other parts are easy to find used and good deals. Good luck and will keep my eyes open.

Looks like I have a solid lead on a black one from an 03, going to try and go after that one.

I know this is an old thread but maybe to help the people that find this via Google or whatever, you don't really need that bracket to mount the speedo and tach. I'm speaking specifically about the 2004 FXDL dash... not anything older... not sure if this applies there. So, let's say you're converting from a Street Bob, like I am. Well, there is already a plastic "clamp bracket" that holds that speedo up in there. The P/N for it is: 67689-04 and it's like $3 at a Harley dealer (they'll have to order it). You can find them on eBay for $8 with "free shipping" usually, too (http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...All-Categories). Get another one of those for the tachometer you intend to install and, if for some reason you didn't have one for the speedo, get one for the speed as well. You'll see on the bracket when you get it that there are notches that the bracket has that are supposed to fit into notches on the FXDL dash but, of course, they aren't there because the FXDL dash used a different mounting system. So all you have to do is get your Dremel and carefully notch out those notches on the FXDL dash just large enough that the notches on the bracket slide right in. Make sure, of course, that you notch perfectly vertical otherwise your speedo/tach will be off center. Then, utilizing some screws you either already have or grab from a local hardware store, put the speed and tach into the bracket from the top of the dash then screw it down. It pressure fits on there just fine. No big deal. The hard part is figuring out where you'll put the idiot lights but LEDs are small and wires can be even smaller so just hit up somewhere that sells these things, drill appropriate sized holes in your dash (or not and put them somewhere else), pull out the wires from your original idiot light display and splice them into your new LEDs which you'll mount (with some sort of weather seal and screw or pressure-fit lock as opposed to superglue or something, ideally) into the holes and bam you have yourself the FXDL dash with locked down gauges, idiot lights, and a tach which Harley should have provided in the flippin' first place.
