The fork stem is pressed into the lower tree and looks darn near impossible to remove. So I don't know how you'd keep it from getting chromed as well. I don't think it's like powdercoating where you can just tape it off when you shoot the powder. The chrome would also screw up the dimensions of the fork clamps and they have a fairly close tolerance. Better off buying chrome trees.
That said, the trees are pretty easy to remove/replace if you have something to lift the front end.
I don't think it would cost any less to buy a good set of trees already chromed, plus you would cut the wait time if you just swap for a different set.
Lots of them available on ebay.
As panic fan said, fairly easy swap to do.
I bought a pair of trees and had them chromed. Went to stealership and had them press out the stem. Sent them off too chromethathog and paid like 275.oo.
If I had it to do over would have bought chromed trees, or simply powdered them black(the chrome at noon can be blinding.)
I know it's not chrome, but you could polish those trees and if you took your time you could get it to a darn near mirror finish. Certainly cheaper than chroming / powdercoating. It's another option for you.
