Greetings,
Those are the contacts on the end of the wire.
Best advise would be to replace the switch as it looks like you are maybe missing some parts.
I agree with previous poster that it looks like a momentary switch which just bridges the two wires to preform a function.
Should not matter which wire goes to which side of switch.
I hate it when that happens but if you are able to ride and not able to pick up a switch immediately, just tape the wire ends so they don't short out and ride that sucker.....
My 06 parts manual shows the wires going into the plug for the speedo..
You might also try your local dealer who will have the wiring diagram on the computer...Also: http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche....=13&A=627&B=50
dyna rider, these wires went into the odometer, trip button on the side of the dash...they were the last thing I disconnected before the entire console came off...everything else was detached at that time...
Here's how the switch wires are connected to the switch and the speedo plug on an FXDL dash(gray wire left on switch goes to left on plug; gray wire right on switch goes to right on plug) ; image might help you to re-assamble the switch.....
WIDERGLIDER-That's what the diagram is from...Number 16 in the diagram is the reset button and goes to the plug that hooks up to the speedometer, items 29-31-39-40.....and yes, I know it only has 2 wires coming from the reset switch.
If it was me, I would go to the dealer buy a new switch and ask them to show me the wiring diagram where the wires hook up.
I would look it up in my wiring diagram but mine is an 06 and yours being a 10 might be wired a little differently. You might ask for someone who has a shop manual for a 2010 to show you which pins it goes too.
Reset button= trip button

Perfect advice. Biggest reason that I'd be lookin' to replace the switch is that it might come apart again at a less convenient time.
I know they sell 'em, cuz I have known others that bought extra of them for garage door buttons and other functions.
No way I'd do anything other than replace it.
How bad could they possibly price it? You are dealing with HD afterall. The brotherhood!
Thanks guys for all the advice, sorry dyna rider, I didn't understand your post before. I appreciate your patience! I will be contacting the dealer to see what their price is before I go buy one online somewhere.....probably not going to mess with trying to fix it...thanks!

I found in my service manual where it plugs in to, and it is the speedometer for my model. I will have to run the new one to the harness. I appreciate all the help! I have posted a picture of my console diagram for future reference. (The switch is number 12 in the diagram).
EDIT: after many attempts, this is the biggest I can make this picture, hope everyone can see it!
