I have a Wide Glide that I want to add a back support for myself.
The seat I have is comfortable so I don't want to purchase a seat that has the back rest slot in it ( and the expense)
I was thinking on making a bracket similar to the sissy bar that I could bolt on and it would allow me to mount a support pillar for me when I ride solo
I have a 2 up seat and there is a pad on the sissy bar for the wife
Before I get started on making something, I just wanted to ask if something like this existed
The picture below is a side view of the seat I will be using. The picture on my signature is the previous seat and I am not using that one.
That is what I have in mind. Something removable that I can use only on long rides
Let me see what I can design, I have tubing benders and access to a lathe and Mill
If I can make it happen without it looking too bulky or like it shouldn't be there, I will post up some pictures but it will be a couple weeks or so before I can start
i saw one in the under $50 thread. but it was a split seat. they used a piece of flat tubing between the two seats and slipped the post of the back rest in when needed.
I'm thinking, (debateable) if maybe you can reverse the detachable plates and that would put the back rest up to the driver then turn the pad around. I know it wouldn't work without modification. It's just a thought. My bike is put away for the winter so I can't look at it at the moment.
Good luck,
Tim
Check out Protac, mine cost $85. http://www.protac.net/page7/page3/harley.html
I bought one for my Wife's Softail, decided to put it on my 07 FXD.
I just flipped the brackets and drilled to bottom open so it was fully adjustable, I even drilled and put in set screws to lock it in place and keep someone from stealing it.
Make long rides (and short rides) way comfortable.
Pics in my gallery.
