I'm trying to install new throttle/idle cables on my 14" apes and I'm having problems with throttle response? Not sure if I did not sand the bars enough(got new bars and the grip was tight on them due to over chroming) or I needed to position the grip at a certain point so the cables can be adjusted right?
Anyone come across same problem? The grip goes down but the return is slow and weak.
You might check the adjustment of the throttle/idle cables ... if there's too much tension on the throttle cable, it'll be slow returning to the idle position ....
Make sure your "cruze control" is backed all the way off. I farted around with my throttle for more than I care to remember because it was slow to come back and after taking a break my son said ".....what's this thingee?" and then it dawned on me. I guess it must have gotten turned while I was taking off the old grips. Yes, I felt like a dumba$$!!!
If the bend in the cables is too sharp because of cables being too short, this can cause a stiff throttle or if the cables are not routed correctly. I assume the throttle is smooth and turns easily without the cables attached.
