The "new and improved" gasket is thicker/taller for a better seal. I actually replaced the entire master cylinder assembly which includes cap, gasket, resevoir and brake lever for $118. It was not very hard to do. The banjo bolt is a weird part, 12 points or something, so I had to buy a wrench to fit it, otherwise, fairly straight-forward.

New lid with gasket cost me just over $20. HD knows about the problem and the new replacement is "better". Some were covered under warranty mine was not. It was a service bulletin.

Front brake master cylinder fitting single disk p/n 41739-84A has a 11mm 12-point socket; more m-sizes to be found over here:

***dyna models metric sizes database***

Multiple options:

11mm 12 point socket:

10 & 11 mm 12 point ring wrench:

11 mm 12 point combination wrench:

10 & 11 mm 12 point tube wrench:

These are the ones I have in my toolbox:

I bought a brand new Master Cylinder on eBay for $20. Couldn't stand the look of the crinkled paint on the old one. Oh... and no more leak! Same cover and gasket too.

The paint on the lid of my '08' fatbob is bubbled up from the fluid leaking. I've never had it off. Waranty is up so when I replace mine this year it'll come out of my pocket.

Does anyone have the p/n for the new and improved cover and gasket set that they sell?
