A bike that nice, just get a new gasket and cover, you don't want to get it on your tank or any painted surface.
Thanks, but like I said I have had mine replaced three times by dealer under warranty with "new and improved" gasket/ cover and it's leaking again. As someone stated earlier, it's a known defect and you would think they would have figured it out by now. I agree with reded, **** poor quality and it shouldn't be happening over and over again. Sometimes I feel like the MoCo standard mode of operation is just to wear people down on warranty issues like this. Once they get you in to the extended part of warranty they know it cheaper for you to figure a way to fix it yourself than pay the deductible. That's where I'm at now. It's things like this that convince people to buy Victory or Japanese bikes... Although there's certainly nothing wrong with Victory. My 2 cents...
I was just looking at this myself - 08 FXDF. The paint is all bubbled (not just on the lid) and looks like ****.
I was thinking of going all out and replacing MC with a unit from PM or Joker Machine. Maybe get rid of the switches while I'm at it - should help clean up the front end a bunch.
Hello,
Sorr for the late reply to an old question. New guy here.
Do your motorcycles call for dot 4 or dot 5 ? HD has had a long running problem with the dot 4 fluid. The gaskets don't stand up to it. Has anyone ever converted to dot 5 from dot 4 ?
