i've put piles of money in boats, cars, quads, bikes, wife, in the quest for speed. i thinking with this one [2008 FXDC] i will get it to breath and leave it at that. have put on rush 2 1/4" slip ons, want to change air intake, may be K&N. do i need a tuner or the download? thanks ric
Skip the download and go straight to a piggy back tuner. It opens up your options later down the road and from my experience the dealer download is worthless for any amount of real performance. You can get a powercommander3 for less than $250 from Fuelmoto already set up for your mods. I know some will say the download is ok for just intake and slip ons but you never know when you might come across a deal on a set of pipes or something and then you're gonna need the tuner anyway. It's worth it in my mind.
I wanted the same for my bike. Changed the pipes and it ran like crap. Obviously very lean. Did the download and the power came back and runs very well. About a year or so later I changed the air cleaner to the S&S teardrop. Still runs great.
This is all I plan for the engine as of now. If I decide to up the cubes, then I will have to make more changes but that prob. wont happen since my son will be going off to college next year.
had the dealer do the download when they put on mufflers and a/c. waste of money. bought a pc5 from fuelmoto...big improvement-and can be re-mapped for free by fuelmoto if i decide to do cams, true duals, etc.
just wondering why everyone always goes with the PC and not spend a little more and just a auto tuning system like the TTS or thunder max that utilize the o2 sensors instead of eliminating them. If I did'nt already have a PC I would go that route, just my 2 cents

I AGREE 150% STRAIGHT UP. I will be getting thunder maz in two months cant go wrong with the warrenty they offer
My brother has a 11 wideglide"my bike is a niterod". He has an SE heavy breather and V&H big Radius pipes. He added the SE race tuner and had the bike dyno tuned. Really made a big difference over the stock bike and runs flawless. There is a trade off if you buy a tuner and get the bike dyno tuned, it will cost about the same as the tts or thundermax with the auto-tune feature. Most people go with a tuner and just put a map or file in it cause that is what most dealers like to do. Most people will swap out exhausts and breathers maybe other minor stuff at the dealer when they buy their bike and just add it to the loan. So they put a tune on the bike for those mods, but if mod the bike more then you have to come back to the dealer and get a new tune and they get more money.
