Thanks for the advice. I live in England so unfortunately I don't have an opportunity to go to a swap meet. I have been looking ebay for the tins. I bought both fenders last night on Ebay for less than $100 beans. I'm having a harder time finding a tank, but I'm sure someone will put one on there soon enough. The main reason I'm boxing the tins is so that I don't have to go 2-3 weeks without my scooter. If anyone has a take off they want to get rid of shoot me a PM and I'll take it off your hands.

Thanks again,

Phil
Send me a message about what you want, your year/model bike and what you are willing to pay. I am going to the last BIG bike swap meet here in Michigan in a couple weeks. I would be glad to pick some up and ship to you, no additional charge.

I work for a British owned company, and may be able to get a real deal on sending stuff to the UK.

Beagle, thanks for the offer. I ordered the tank just before I saw that you posted this. I ended up getting everything on ebay for $300. Not quite as good of deal as you could have gotten but it's done and over with now. So the outcome is I'm boxing up the original tins and the speedo, because it's numbered.

Thanks,

Phil

Phil, you probably did just fine at $300. By the time I found what you wanted and shipped it, you would have had $150-200 into the tank.

Be sure to post pics of your new paint job!

I'd keep the factory Anniversary tin set and check on ebay or at a swap meet and paint those.

My vote is to keep anthing from the original state to sell with the bike if you ever plan on doing so .
I have a CVO that's in the same boat, luckily I put it all away , including all the motor parts I've swapped out.
I'll probably be selling it in the spring and I'm real glad I have them , at the very least I can Ebay them

hey hog, i was faced with the same thing a few months back....i got new sheetmetal and took my emblem off for the new stuff. this way you can still return it to stock. myself, i would never return it but think about if you sell it(we all say we wont but the chances are good we will someday)a new owner may like the stock set and it could be a selling factor.....go to customflamepainting.com they can sell and paint the new tins for you....and i can say that they are excellent! nice people to deal with too...

I have a '98 Dyna Wide Glide. It has the 95th anniverssary edition paint job with the emblems (maroon and tan). Personally I don't like the paint job, so I want to put a custom job on the tins. My gut tells me to keep the tins the way they are and buy a new set. But to save myself the money, I was thinking about just painting over the 95th paint job. Does anyone else think that's a bad idea? Is there a real reason to keep the original paint job? Are the anniverssary paint jobs worth more than a normal Harley paint job? I know this is strictly an opinionated question so any opinions would be helpful.

Thanks,

Phil

Swap Meet some used tins. You can get a full set for about $100 around here (Detroit). May be scratched or dented, but so what, you are going to go over them anyhow.

That is what my painter told me to do, that way the bike isn't off the road, he can take his time, and I have my orginal set to keep or sell to recoop the paint job cost.
