Default tax returns= hard bag questions

with tax returns about to come in and me getting tired of wearing a backpack on long runs its time to get some storage options. im not a fan of leather soft bags or most throwovers that ive seen. however im really diggin the hardbag looks. my bike is an 03 dyna FXD

so far ive decided to go with ghost brackets for my quick detach setup and im gonna try the new D2moto led taillight setup to remove the rear turn sigs.

the question now is which hardbags to look for? the early 80's-90's model flh bags look workable but so do some of the ABS plastic bags also like these

so my more knowledgeable elders and bike gurus help a newer guy out....

I'm putting stock Road King police hardbags on mine. Several here have 'em on their Dyna's. Check out WydGlydBry's bike.

couldnt find that member on here but did some searching on ebay and came up with these, cant really beat the price and they look like fitmet with ghost brackets would be easy. not real big on the cheesy fake chrome but that can be painted black

I'm looking at the doing same thing. The police hard bags are sweet, but pricy, at least the ones I've located. Those ebay aren't bad at all, but they're listed for FLH/FLT fitment, so I'm curious how they'll look on a Dyna, shock to bag angle etc. Keep posting through your project op.

They will fit ... it is up to the individual as to how they feel about how they look ....

I am a fan ... think they look good ... (I use the older style bags) ....

Even though they have cut-outs for the shocks, they can be used with ghost brackets or easy brackets .... I think the guys who've used the hard bags sometimes put a plate of aluminum or something to help keep rigidity ... on the Touring bikes they have a cross-member support that runs along the insider of the rear fender ... that's why it is kind of important to try to ensure their rigidity ....

Plus ... it is so convenient to have all of that capacity that it is hard to resist the temptation of overstuffing them ....

FYI ... I used the original brackets and just adapted them to the Dyna rear fender struts ... below are a couple of photos of how my bags are mounted ....

Here is a detailed link to doing this setup. Both Joe's did a great job with their setups.

I thought I would want QD bags, but I didn't like the brackets making everything even wider in the rear.

Now that I have the bags on the bike permanently, I like em just fine. Having a place to put stuff changed the way I ride. Much better now.

I have an 03 2 tone FXDL. I have the color matched hard bags on them. Overall impression is they are "ok" but not worh the 1200+ bucks they wanted for them. My preference is the bossbags that I had on my 07. Which I would trade down for any day of the week...
