Default Dumb cam question

So after a ton of research, I will more than likely go with the HD hydraulic tensioner upgrade kit on my 2000 sometime this summer. These models had the bad tensioner as well as a problem with the cam bearings.

When I do the upgrade I am also going to have Andrews 37 cams put in.

Here is the dumb question, will this work also take care of the bad cam bearings? I'm assuming the cam swap includes new cam bearings so it will no longer have the ball bearings?

And finally, is this the kit I need?:

This is the kit you need.

you will have to buy inner and outer bearings extra.

it would be best to DEFINITELY replace the inner bearings.

Thanks

Just found out that the 2000 has a cam position sensor, anybody know how this will be impacted if I switch cams?

No problems. The cam sensor works off the cam gear.

As mentor70 said....DEFINITELY change those inner bearings while you're in there.

So the outer bearings are not problematic? I thought in the 99s and 2000s it was the rear outer bearing that was an issue

Nevermind, it looks like the Andrews cams come with new outer bearings, i will just have to pick up a set of inner bearings when I am ready to get the work done.

Yes the outer rear bearing is the main culprit on the 99-2000's. I'm dealing with this right now on my 99 FXDX. The inner bearings have been known to trash more than a few engines too. The factory inners are a "caged bearing" meaning there is small metal retainers in between each needle bearing. These cages can come apart and let the needle bearings get in to the oil pump which will destroy the pump..and we all know what happens when oil pressure goes away. The Torrington B-148 replacement bearings are only $5-$10 each so there is no reason to not change them while you are in there.

I'm assuming the newer Andrews cams include the correct outer bearings. I bought a set of TW-26's that were brand new in the box but manufactured in 11/99 and they had 2 ball bearings included.

I did the same mod's last fall. Very happy with the andrews 37 cam. My tensioners were looking not so good at 10,000mi. What are you doing about the exaust?
