Other than someone not having a the proper size wrench, is there any problems with replacing a torx screw with a torx tamper proof? Are they harder to remove? Do they strip easier? etc/
Are you talking about going from the torx bit
to the security torx bit?
I have never seen anyone do this, however I don't see where there would be a problem other then finding the tools to work on them. I used them on video game cabinets when I used to work on them, helped keep the kids out of them.
Yes, just as your pics show.
The screws on my sissy bar are chrome torx button head and I want to replace them with stainless but I cannot find stainless torx that are not the tamper proof kind.
ACE Hardware (TruValue in some areas) usually has a nice Chrome & Stainless bolt selection. Any reason why you want to keep the Torx? Whenever I have replaced a standard torx, I have replaced with button head (allen) in either chrome or stainless. Much easier to find.
All the rest on the bike have been replaced with Allen but I wanted to keep the Torx on the sissy bar because of the number of facets in the head as they have to have a fair amount of Locktite on them and I do not want to have a problem removing them since I will be changing the sissy bar alot.
I already have the screws in stainless Torx tamper proof. They don't make standard Torx in stainless in assorted sizes. They are rare in the US but not in Europe.
On small fasteners w/ blue loctite on them try heating the head with a soldering iron for a little bit then try to turn them Works great If you used red you might be screwed.
