Hi all. I have a 2010 FXD. The exhaust has broken twice so far at the weld where the top header joins the butterfly valve assembly. I am looking for a long term fix. Do the US models have this valve in the exhausts? It is a butterfly valve that redirects exhaust from the rear cylinder to the bottom exhaust at low revs.
Thanks
Thud.
I am hoping to find a long term fix. The exhaust has been repaired again under warranty but that won't last long. I know several owners with the same problem. I have been told to buy an aftermarket exhaust but why should I?

You don't say where you live and I have no idea of the laws pertaining to emission testing, etc. that you have in your area, but the reasons to change out your exhaust are several.
In the US the newer bikes run very restrictive exhaust, catalytic converters and lean control modules. This causes high temperatures and poor performance. The first mod we normally do is called a stage 1. It consists of a larger intake air cleaner kit, a recalibrated air/fuel map and a better flow exhaust. It's just something that we just do when buying a new bike.

Hello Hemi. I am in Australia. The bike is at stage 1. It has the Big Sucker air intake, Screamn Eagle mufflers and Screamn Eagle race tune. The problem involves the header and the way it is attached to the emissions valve assy. This is a manufacturer fault. Harley Davidson US have now told me the problem is being looked at by thier engineering dept.
No butterflies in my bikes. Is the or has the exhaust been reset on the bike. I.e. loosened up then retighten from exhaust ports to final bracket. Sounds like the weld could be breaking from a stress point on the area.
Could be senior but it seems the two materials(stainless and the metal emissions tube) are not compatible. ie they expand and contract at different rates.
