Default exhaust: performance without getting too loud?

Guys,

Hoping to buy my LAST exhaust system. Have a 2012 Softail Deluxe stock 103ci with SE ac. Will probably do cams next year but will probably never build engine further than that.

Looking for best performance improvement exhaust for the bike without getting too loud. Hate getting tickets and having trouble at inspection time.

Interested in a FatCat but worried about whether it'll be too loud. Any reccomendations?

Thanks

You could try a FatCat with a quiet baffle but I don't know if that's going to pass muster as far as the loudness. My V&H BR 2-1 with standard baffle isn't crazy loud and I don't think it's as loud as a standard baffle FC. You can get a quiet baffle for the the V&H too. IMO the style of the V&H BR 2-1 doesn't really suit a Deluxe but that's why there's different pipes. The performance and sound are very good though.

Good Luck on your quest.

I have a '10 FXSTC that I just put cams (Andrews 48) into and the sound of the exhaust (SE slip ons) improved dramatically, I have purchased but not yet installed D&D Fatcats so maybe after this weekend I can give you a better idea how loud they are.

Thanks guys.

Bolt, yeah I'd like to hear how the install goes and what you think of the pipes once you have em on.

I'm starting to think screw it I'll just put the damn fatcats w/ quiet baffle on...

I think the SuperTrapp supermeg will meet your needs better than the fatcat as far as quiet is concerned. It has a tunable disc system that allows you to really dial it in and a solid end cap which keeps it relatively quiet.

Try American Custom exhaust. They are a sponsor here (look to list on right>>). They make your stock exhaust flow better and adjustable for sound. Very cost effective. My brother and I got them and like the alot (mid range baffles-diff ones you can add, takes 5 minutes). We got their "blems" option on their website instead of sending them ours. They might have 1-2 minor surface scratches, be we could not find them. Really inexpensive way to go.

Just put the Fat Cat on this past weekend. Nice rumble at idle but anything more and they are LOUD. I wish I had the quiet baffle, but I got these used and the cost of the quiet baffle is as much as I paid for the whole system. I had the V&H Big Radius on before and the Fat Cat is louder. As far as the install, I had the same problem as another guy on the board, that is the rear pipe comes in contact with the points cover. And yes, I started the install from the rear as recommended by D&D. But they look great and sound good, just too loud for this old fart.

American Custom Exhaust. The sound on my Heritage is perfect. You can also tune the sound levels to suit your taste with their removable baffles, and the price is right.

On my D&D Fatcat, I've had the quiet and standard baffles and there's not much of a difference. I'm currently running the standard baffle.
