speedometer needle and tach not working on 1998 dyna
I had to put a top end on my 98 Dyna last week, I took it out for a test ride today and the speedo and the tach needles do not work.
The odo and all the lights work but both needles are dead.
Any sugestions?
This may be totally unrelated to your issue but my gauges died once and what I did was turn off the key before turning off the kill switch. Apparently there is a sequence that needs to be followed. Upon restart I switched the kill switch to ON then turned on the key and the guages worked normal. In your case a wire my have been left disconnected on reassembly, just a guess. Good luck with it.

Bumping this one in case anyone deals with this issue as I did this morning.
When I started up my 2002 Super Glide and took off for the trip home from work this morning, the engine revs (of course there's no tach on the bike) and speeds for the gears seemed off in street traffic. When I approached highway speed and took my first curve, the bike tried to swing wide. As I got on the highway and the speed/engine revs for 55 felt more like 70, it finally dawned on me that the speedo was registering well below its actual speed.
Got home and jumped on the Dyna forum, searching speedometer issues. Found this post and it reminded me that I'd been switching the bike off with the key occasionally. Took the bike out again later. After riding for a few miles, stopping a couple of times and shutting it down with the kill switch, the speedo started working correctly again.
