Below the seat on the right side, below the ignition switch, there are two 1/2" bolts that need to be loosened ... one pointing in toward the center of the bike ... and one above it, pointing up toward the key switch ...

After removing the lower bolt, loosen the upper bolt ... as you are loosening it, the rear of battery box should swing down on a pivot at the inner front of the box ....

If you have a cover, you should be able to slide it up and out of the lip on the lower edge of the battery box ....

You might need to totally remove the upper bolt ... to remove the battery lift it up over the edge of the box tray and pull out ... use a open end wrench to remove the front battery lead from the negative terminal and pull the battery forward and rotate the front outward ... pull back the cover over the positive lead and you can then remove the lead from the positive terminal ... you're done ....

Yes. What he said. Also, kudos for you for not bringing the bike to a stealership and doing it yourself. Double kudos for asking for help when your stuck. Doing it yourself and learning along the way is what its all about.

Also kudos to 'Chop and bikerlaw for actually helping and not just reciting the tired old "get a manual". It's always nice to see some one get help with out being chastised.

Not everyone can afford a repair manual, after i bought my bike, i did not have much cash leftover, and a manual in Canada is 90.00 + tax, well over a 100.00, and sometimes we just need a little help for a small project.

they cover the removal of the cover good...when installing the battery, use blue loctite on the battery bolts. I believe the battery bolts are 10mm(at least on my 05 they are).
