I've added a 2" extension to my forward controls on my 94 Dyna which for me feels just right, I'm 6'1 and the extra length is more natural. I have been toying with the idea of adding a set of pegs in the center just for a change on longer hauls.
I have an 05' wideglide with factory forwards and I really like them. I must admit that I'm not used to them yet. I still hunt for them on occasion when taking off from a stop, but once I get going they feel so natural. My only concern is if my foot would accidently slip off. That would be an ugly situation. I will eventually install a pair of heal rests.
The only thing you need to watch is if you are starting out on a dirt or gravel road and you have to stop suddenly. Make sure that you have your right foot on the foot brake and do not use you front brake.
02 FXDXT (T-Sport). My butt gets sore using the mid pegs. As soon as I use the highway pegs the pain goes away. I wish the mid pegs were about 1-1/2 inch lower to put more weight on my thighs and less on my cheeks. Taller drivers must really hate the stock seat. I am 5' 9" and barely reach the ground, but getting a lower seat would make it worse. I like the straight up riding position for negotiating corners with the knee out. I can't do tight curves with my feet on the highway pegs.
I went ridind (on the Dyna) with a friend who has a Softail Deuce with forward controls. he told me I was going way too fast on exit/entry ramps. He felt out of control. Honest I was not pushing it. He is an experienced rider so no problem there. I think the riding position made the differnce.
I rode my 05 FXDI the day I bought it with the center controls, but before I took it home the next day I had them install a set of forward controls. I wouldnt have mine any other way. But I might get a set of those switchblade pegs by kurykan (or however u spell it) cause they would keep my heels up on a long ride.
I'm probably going to add forward controls here soon, just curious, how many of you switched the inner primary cover to get rid of the little knod that sticks out?
You will find that not too many do that job.
I bought the little chrome "nut" to go on the shaft. I"m happy.
I had the mid controls for about 6 months with highway pegs. I kept putting my feet
on the highway pegs even in traffic. I just put the forward controls on and love it.
I'm 6' and 215 pounds.
Can anyone post pictures of how the forward controls look? Generally, I don't add stuff to a bike, i ususally take stuff off.....like 'em stripped down and light, but I'm also 6'2.......
