Hey asiafish - i just made a similar jump, from 4-5 years on an '81 GS650E right to a Street Bob... it's night and day but holy smokes do I like the change.
I cant speak for the Rod, but the Bob's a seriously kick *** bike!
Good luck with your choice, I'm sure you'll have a blast whatever you pick.
Welcome Asiafish. A V-Rod is as Harley as any FXD, so don't worry about that at all. See what you prefer after sitting on one. Also take into account the air vs. water cooling, not sure if that makes a difference to you. Both are outstanding solo rides and each can be converted for touring fairly easily. Best of luck.
I looked heavily at the Muscle, Night Rod and Street Bob and purchased the Bob. I can say I do love the machine. My brother bought the Muscle, I also love that machine but would still buy Bob if I had to do it over. I really don't think you could go wrong with any of the choices. God I wish it wasn't raining, I would have rode it to work today.
