Default Dyna or Night Rod

I am getting ready to buy my first HD, and always thought I wanted a Dyna until I saw a new 2009 Night Rod at my local dealer with a massive markdown (they want it gone). I'm coming off an old (but very clean) 1980 Suzuki GS850G and want to remain with "standard" bike, something that can do just about any kind of street riding from long distance touring to straightening out a canyon road at semi-fast speeds.

I love the look of the Night Rod, but then, I love the look of the 2011 Superglide and Street Bob as well. Recommendations?

Here is what I'm riding now, may have to sell to convert to accessories for the new HD.

I can't speak for the nightrod. I know they are fast!! My Street Bob is great and I love it. I can load it up for touring, camping and strip it down. It handles the curves just fine and is fun as hell to me.

Stripped down

For camping

Jaron B.....That is a cool sight to see. First time I have seen a SB all loaded up like that. I plan to take a two month trip on my Bob this summer. I was kinda wondering how I was gonna get the bike all geared up. I was wondering what is that rack you have on the rear fender....judging from your pics its detachable.....where did you get that? Thanks....

hey there ASiafish....you are kinda in the same boat I was a few months ago. I was (still am actually) riding a Suzuki 125cc...much smaller than what you have....decided I wanted to step it up to a Harley...thought about the Nightster but fell in love with the Street Bob....I sat on both and knew instantly that the Bob was the bike for me....then I rode it...the rest is history...I am 100% satisfied with the Bob. Now all I have to do is get back stateside where my baby awaits...

I think the best thing you can do is sit on all three and see what feels the best. The nightrod I was looking at when I first started deciding I wanted out of the crotch rocket scene and getting into cruisers. The Nightrod has a better power band, but the stock dyna isnt a slouch by no means either. If you are serious on making the purchase the dealer should let you test ride them to see which one you truely want to buy. I ended up with the Streetbob but that is the choice I made and felt the best on, etc.

Welcome to the boards Asiafish.
Is that a Slipstream Spitfire windshield on your 'Zuki? Looks similar to mine.

Like others have mentioned above...sit on them, see how they feel for YOU. If the dealer lets you ride a few...do so. Get the feel of the bike. See which one YOU feel best one, not which one strangers think is best for you. You have to combine what feels best for you, what looks best for you, what's priced best for you, any deals the stealership will give you on a bike....thus what's best for YOUR wallet. Make a decision based on the above decisions...take a bike home, make it yours, and don't look back.

I too sat on a Night Rod, took it for a spin, and thought about one when I's checking out bikes. Then I sat on my Superglide Custom and the rest is history. Love the Superglide. It just fits me and my versatility better.

Edit: But of course these are all bias opinions. Go talk to the Night Rod guys and you'll here why you should get one of those instead.

It's a HD detachable solo rack. The tourpack was from ebay for like 80 bucks. Bolted it together with some 1/8" hardware brackets. Here's a link to get you started. IF you want to set up the tourpack for 2up search for Jackyl on this forum and he can make a bracket to use the same tourpack. For 2 months that will allow you another T-bag or something. The roll bag on my bars is the Kuryakyn custon roll bag with built in D-rings and holds my tent.

I had a V-Rod Anniversary model after a succession of Big Twins. Could not get used to the V-Rod concept. The bike felt peaky to me as opposed to the torque of a big inch V-twin. I sold the V-Rod and now ride a 2011 Wideglide. Just my opinion, no knock on the V-Rod concept as I know they are a great bike.
