Hopefully someone can help. Took off the stock Street Bob tail/brakelight and put on a two wire brakelight. Black is ground and Red Yellow is brake light. Correct? Anyways with the key on have running light but no brake light. What should I look for? I put on Joker Machine turn signals front/rear with no issues with soldering. Thanks for the help in advance.
It sounds like you are missing a wire....One wire for ground, unless it internally grounds, one wire for running lights, one wire for brake lights......Did it come with instructions or a wiring diagram? Who makes the taillight and do they have tech support?
In the wiring diagram Bry posted up, the Orange/White wire is not used on domestic U.S. models ...
The blue lead is tail light/running light, and the red/yellow striped lead is for the brake light ... you need to have the housing of the thing grounded ... to the black lead ....
I just got done (almost) wiring a tombstone tail lamp for my bike ... there were only two leads coming off the lamp, but the outer housing of the light receptical is the ground ... the lamp came with a lead that has to be grounded to the tail lamp housing and run to the wiring circuit ....
I bought a 6-position AMP pin terminal (vice receptical terminal) and crimped on the pin fittings ... I am re-wiring everything to be quick disconnect using the same connectors as stock (the AMP terminal connectors) ....
[The little 'arrows' and 'Y' designate pin connector and socket connector, respectively]
It took me a little while to do my homework ... study the wiring diagrams and the terminology ... also, got to where I now understand the numbering system of the housings so I can trace a wire back ....

Thanks Jmeiers and Surfor Chop. I had a very blonde moment!! I think what threw me off was that the new tail/light have a black and red wire coming out of it and thought the black was ground. Everything thing is good to go now. Thanks again.
