I wanted to get my paint code for my 2011 sedona orange wg. One parts guy said he needs the vin to access my build sheet. When i called them back i got someone else and he said that harley does not have paint codes for any bikes unless its 5 yrs old. He said the only way to get paint is to have a body shop shoot it with a camera to get the exact paint code or buy the paint from Harley which is 150 bucks a quart and acctivator. He said going through harley it may not be exact. THe only real way to get the exact color is to have the body shop shoot the paint with a camera. I am no body man and dont really understand any of this. I was just thinking of getting my batter cover and fuse cover painted the color of the bike instead of being black. Any thoughts why harley cant give me my paint code?
I manage a collision repair shop and have had my local paint supplier get HD paint codes just by giving them the HD name for the paint, like vivid black and so on. Save yourself some time and don't bother a collision repair shop unless they specialize in motorcycles repair. Just go to a paint supplier, you could call a local body shop to point you in the direction of you local paint supplier if your not familiar with them
yeah, on second thought... you don't need a code. you just need a good painter to match it off a color chip and go with that. Take it to a body shop and they'll hook ya up. My train of thought was thinkin that you need the actual HD code... forget that
Thanks. I had no idea that by bring the bike to a reputable repair shop that they could match the paint without the code.
DJY if you manage a collision repair shop how much should i expect to pay to have my battery and electrical cover painted the sedona orange. I was just thinking to be a little different than leaving it gloss black.
This place doesn't have all listed but can get real good on the matching of paint . I have used them for my Jeeps for touch-up paint and was very pleased
Dont trust the camera! I work in the industry. We tried the camera on a brand new car and it gave us a paint code from a different make and model as the best match. I would first try a paint supplier to see if they could actually get the exact paint code for your bike.
your id number will tell you the code and h.d will give you the number or have a bodyshop call them they cannot deny you what if you wrecked your bike
i asked the parts guy the same thing. what if i had an accident and needed repair. he said the body shop would do the camera thing to match paint. harley said they have paint codes but they date back to 5 yrs. seems odd to me as well
