AFTER YOU BUY A 2005 SUPERGLIDE
I rode my bike not over 40 mph the first 20 miles or so, then went to 55 sustained for periods, with medium rev up starts, once up to 70 then eased back to sustained 55-60, trying to keep it at 55. Wanted to get out and get plenty of air across the fins. Keep in mind this was with the Stage I re-cal., intake and mufflers. Damn thing is LOUD, and has HUGE torque.
I can't see how it'll hurt the engine if I do a little revving once in a while with sustained speeds. The RPM's aren't going that high. (Of course I don't have a tach....)
I'm not gonna worry about it. I don't abuse my stuff, and the 70 mph happened because I did a real quick takeoff and by the time I hit 3rd and looked down I was already there!
P.S. Superglides rule!

Look there is no problem with running the bike up ther a bit. What the MoCo recommends and I tend to agree is this. You can run the bike up to around 4500 rpm but don't just hammer it up there. Progressivley going through the gears run it up to say around 22-2500 in first then around 3000-3750 in second then 3500-43-4400 in third then you can run it on up to 4500-4700 in 4th nad fifth. The worst thing you can do on break in is to run it hard a few times like I mentioned above which if you check out www.mototuneusa.com you will find that is how this guy breaks in new bikes, is running it at say a steady 55-60 down the highway for 20 miles or so at a constant speed. That is the number 1 No-No on a new bike. After you have run it around for about 150 miles or so then it is well seasoned and the rings are sealed. They will be sealed in the first 50 miles if you follow the Mototune recipie of breaking in a new engine.
I did a build on my 2000 Electraglide about two years ago and I did that method for break in and I am not one bit sorry at all. The bike is a wicked hot rod and I just made it more scarry when I did a little cam swap last week.
I broke in my Springer the way I outlined and if you have been following some of the scuttlebutt about 05 bikes using oil it is a problem.
The deal is IMHO, is that the new 05 bikes have had a few Kiss the EPS's butt changes like the beehive valve springs which again IMHO are junk as they are not as strong as the older ones. They are something like 135# where the old ones were 145#. They dropped the compression ratio down and a few other nasty little things they did.
ell with these reduced specs it is harder to seat the rings so you actually do need to be just a bit rougher on the break in to get everything to seal well.
The morrow of the story like I said before is Ride it Like you Stole It. It means what it says. The other thing is that if you should get one of the oil burners the MoCo is doing something about it but it has to above their specs of oil consupmtion and they do not consider a qt in a 1000 miles as excessive.
So I hope that is a bit of help and to answer RK's question the bike I had him on, my 04 RK Custom had about 4500 miles on it when he and I were doing our little run through the desert in about 85-90* day and running for a while at around 105 or so.
Then we met up with my Bro and the next day RK, me and Rambo were drag racing down Route 10 at about well one time Rambo and I were up over 120 when his bike started spitting and there was RK close but not quite able to catch up. I haven't done my big bore to that one yet. LOL Maybe next Spring RK it will be ready to try to keep up wit hPatti if I don't do the Jim's 120 on it.

Ok kids, It's late and this superhero is tired. Night all. SpiderJim.

Mine is an 05 WideGlide and without a tachometer I was wondering
how many RPM's I was spinning up.
In the bikes made currently and the past few years, the final drive is 3.150 and this applies to all models from bottom to top except sporties. Your dyna should use these same figures as long as there were no primary changes made to the gearing. I believe the only difference is in the softail line where they use to have a 1 tooth difference in the rear pulley. Not sure if this still holds true for the late models or not.
