Its time for yet another front tire on my bike. I currently have the Avon Venom but am thinking this time around I will give the Speedmaster a shot. Its their vintage style tire with the straight groove tread pattern. Since I have a 3" over Springer, corner carving really isn't much of a concern either. I have run the cheapy chinese versions of that old tire on my Shovel, but never on a Dyna. Have any of you guys run the Speedmaster? Any reviews or opinions. They are only 90 bucks and since its an Avon I'm not the least bit concerned about quality....I just was hoping to hear opinions/reviews from people in the know, yah know.
I have read several posts saying its OK on choppers , however they are usually from guys running spools with no front brake. The guys that are running front brakes usually talk about their lack of performance and overall sketchiness on the rain and gridded causeway bridges in the South.
The chopper guys usually expect alot less from the performance aspect and lean towards the true vintage style realizing they sacrifice performance. Most other guys seem less tolerant of their lack of performance compared to modern tires. Just dont expect much from it other than mileage and looks and you will be fine. It would be my tire o choice on a boardtracker build or a barhopper, just not my Dyna.
Then again your bike would look freakin tuff with a Speedmaster so its a tough call.

Thanks guys. Yeah, it would certainly be more for looks and style than anything else. Avon claims its a long life tire as well. I totally get the tread design is decades out of date but I was making the assumption the rubber technology is still on par with other Avon tires. I think I may just give it a shot. Its also a tad taller than the 80/90-21 thats on there now, which I like.
I think it would look great on your bike, but be prepared. A friend of mine had one on his custom (no front fender) and he said the straight groove tread would shoot everything on the road (water, sand ...) straight back into his face. When he switched tires, he went with a Venom.
Always good to know that. My Shovel was always throwing stuff up at me, off the bike, at other cars....so I got used to it. But the Dyna holds up pretty well. I guess I'll give it a try. Worst case I'll put the fender back on. Oh, the shame of it all.
