I'm planning a trip from kcmo to alamagordo, Nm to see my brother before he's shipped overseas. I've never been on such a trip. To date my longest day ride has been 386 miles. I'm hoping to make it out there in 2 days. Long days. I'm getting the bike in for service and a new front tire prior to leaving, and I want them to check it over good. I've got the route there planned to stick to interstates (caravan with family in cages), but tossing up the idea of coming back thru AZ, and CO.
I've got 10 days to make the trip and visit. I plan to leave home on the afternoon thursday, may 12th and have to be back at work on the 22nd.
Th OL will be riding with, but I'm afraid she won't be up to it (she thinks so, who am I to argue) since her longest ride has been 100 miles, and had issues with cramping legs and numb butt. I'be been gettin her on it as much as possible to prepare, but we'll see.
I'm open to any pointers, tips, and suggestions to make this trip as safe and enjoyable as possible.
I've got the touring seat on now, which she says she loves. It's pretty comfortabe, and has good support. I'm trying to gather floor boards and a sissy bar before we go but times short and we all know the $ situation. Luckily we don't have to carry luggage.
Seat looks real thin.. A sissy bar would helps bunches. Mine won't ride without one. But I don't mind, she has done an Iron Butt with me, so I keep her happy....
an absolute must is a sissy bar for her. The only other thing to make the ride most enjoyable is get off the freeway. I found a route that doesn't take the interstate and it only takes 17.5 hours, which is only 2 hours longer then on the interstates. Not bad and it will be way more enjoyable. Chances are if you take your time and make stops it won't take you much longer then that anyway since you will probably make better travel time then they suggest. But even if you decide to stick to the interstate You HAVE to get her a sissy bar with pad!!! JMO though
