Bought my first bike late on a Friday night. Couldn't get insurance that night so I trailered it home using old straps, 1 strap broke and the bike almost came off the trailer. Had a dent in the tank and other small damage before I had even rode it, and that was getting lucky that it stayed on the trailer. Look for a new tank on ebay and you will see there are no shortage of dented tanks, happens a LOT.

yup... statistics say you'll go down in the first six months. I got too much front brake and didn't see some gravel on the rode and layed mine down going about 20... after I rolled, I was still able to watch the bike slide the last ten feet before it stopped. You bet you *** I watch for gravel before that front brake gets touched now. Anyways, my tank was bad but we were able to fix it at my body shop... take your by a body shop and get a quote

OMG, I can't imagine the feeling in your stomach watching that happen.

Take a hammer and ding the other side to match.

i dumped my first bike the same way when I was learning to ride. Good thing it was a Honda 599 and not my FatBob!! Taught me a lesson really quick.

We've all done it, some just worse than others. Each time you learn to be a little more focused and a little less complacent I think. When I did it I scratched a mirror and scraped the bottom of my primary cover...just that was enough to make me spaz out like none other.

Best of luck with the repairs, ride safe.

Talking

A few years back, I was following my buddy into work and when we got to the parking lot he picked out a spot. I came to a full stop while waiting for him to get situated into the spot then I started to pull in. What I didn' notice was that i put my back tire on a small patch of dirt and tried to turn to tight to the right. When I hit the go go juice, the backend came out from under me and it went down on the right side of the tank and the mini apes. Apes were trashed so they got replaced. While I was waiting for the parts guy to get the new ones out of the back I found some of these willie davidson skull pieces that tape one with 3m tape. They fit perfect over the dent and you really have to get close to see the original dent after I cleaned up the paint with a rattle can.

Now the hard part was denting the other side on purpose to match!! Six pack+ rubber mallet+ballpeen hammer=perfect 3inch circle to cover up with the matching madlion.

Been that way for 4 years and no plans to change it. Matter of fact I get complements all the time on how good it looks and if it was custom. So I say "Of Course!!"

Back in the mid-80's I watched my Honda Interceptor slide a couple hundred feet into a dirt berm and then lauch... I hit the ground around 75 or 80mph. The bike went a lot farther than I did.
