I just took the tank off and shook it around with gas and then drained the gas out will now try to put it all back together and see what happens. Thanks for the ideas guys. I appreciate it.

Check the crossover line as it might be clogged. Gas goes in on the right side as the left cap is a fuel gauge. Petcock is on the left side or the tank. If the crossover line is blocked, clogged or kinked gas can not flow from the right side to the left side so therefore no gas can flow out of the petcock. Hope this is useful to you...

The gas won't flow unless the motor is running....its a vacuum operated tap.....you need to disconnect the vacuum pipe from the carby and suck on it with the fuel line disconnected from the carby to see if you have gas flowing....it will never flow with the motor stopped as that is what it is designed to do...prevent your carby from overflowing at rest and flooding the motor, your garage, your carpet etc.

If you have a vacuum operated fuel valve this might help (the service manual is for a Sportster)...

Thank you guys. Still not working but great ideas. I don't have a vacuum pump but will get one and try that out. No gas no start so that leaves me dead in the water. Hopefully I will figure this out as this weekend is supposed to be in the upper 70's to low 80's and just perfect for riding and it's pre bike week out here.

What kind of fuel valve did you replace the original 'defective' one with? Stock, new, used, aftermarket?
You may have replaced it with a defective one.
