That's a good vid and a nice bike - way better than tryin' to describe it in words only.

im not sure if im understanding this completely. i have a full stock 2010 street bob and want exhaust so i ordered V&H short shots. They have been sitting in the garage until i order an a/c and tuner but after reading, i can run just the exhaust w/o doing a tuner and a/c without causing harm to the motor? i understand its letting more air out so you would want more air in (a/c) then more air in means more fuel (fuel management) but with just the exhaust letting more air out wont let the bike run to its full potential?

Yes do the pipes and or AC and forget the tuner. 07 and above dont need them. Buy a set of Xieds and save the money. http://sales.nightrider.com/2007-and...mance_b_5.html

What are XIED's? I was under the impression they/it are a tuner, but I'm not sure after reading some of the posts.

I emailed them and this is what they said. I told them i have a screaming eagle ac, stage 1 download and looking to put on big shots. Now when i go to there website there are 3 different part numbers for 2007 and up dyna's. Dont know exatly which one is needed. I emailed them that question.

John;
Riders find the XiED's a simple, inexpensive alternative to Fuel Pak or Power Commander. The XiED's are a plug-n-play upgrade that installs between the O2 sensors and ECM wiring, richening the fuel mixture from 14.6 to 13.8:1. It works fine with your simple exhaust/air cleaner upgrades.

The majority of riders find the Nightrider XiED upgrade more than adequate for their riding style. Even with a full exhaust upgrade, the XiED's will provide a proper fuel mixture. Unless you are an overly agressive rider or insist on having the 'best dyno sheet', the XiED is a viable alternative to the more expensive options.

Hope the info helps.

I spent 150 on the download and 220 on the air filter. What did the download do? I thought it adjusted the air/fuel because of the more open air filter. So now that the download compinsated for the air filter why couldnt i just run an open exhaust now. I think no matter what company you call they will always suggest a fuel managment or tuner.
You either get the stage 1 download from the dealer -OR- you install a tuner. You don't do both. Plus, the stage 1 download is a waste of money because you'll spend $150 for the download and that's all you get. If you install a tuner now that would allow flexibility in what engine mods you decide to perform later on.

Depending how computer-literate you are, you can buy the TTS MAstertune software which allows you to tune your own bike. It's around $450 w/ necessary cables. A Windows laptop is very handy for installing but a desktop could be used with a really long usb cable.

Also depending on how much cash you have to spend, the Thundermax ECM-replacement ($800 +/-) is also a good choice. You might want to spend some time researching these products. Plenty of info on the forums.

Longhair i realize this now that what i did last year with getting the stage 1 download was a mistake. i went to the dealer with questions and there answer at the time was get the stage 1 download. i have the ac and the stage 1 download. now i want to get big shots. the dealer now says get the tts from mastertune since it is adjustable to any future upgrades. now i dont plan on any motor mods. i just want the full exhaust and open ac. since i have the stage 1 which i though adjusts the a/f slightly to adjust for slipons and open ac. now going with full exhaust i am looking for the best way to keep the bike safe from running to hot. now vance and hines said the fuel pak is what i need. xieds said i only need there product. others here on the forum run no tuner with full exhaust and open ac and say there bike runs great and doesnt run to hot. i am done wasting money, ie stage 1 upgrade, but dont want to spend alot for something i dont need.

Thanks for this topic. A lot of confusing information out there.

I was debating going with slip-ons at first for my `11 FXDC, then full exhuast in 2012. If I'm reading this right, I might just go with the VH Big Radius this season - add the A/C and tune next year - spreading the cost out is a plus also.

If you have the stage 1 download, then it should handle whichever exhaust/ac you install since it isn't exhaust/ac specific. It's quite generic.

Of course everyone wants you to buy their product. I'm surprised the dealer recommended the TTS device and not one of the HD products. (I'm familiar with the TTS/HD backstory.)

The best way to get your bike running optimumly is to install a tuneable device and get the bike dyno-tuned or....spend the extra dough on an auto-tune device like Thundermax (auto-tunes on the fly / $800 or so) or the TTS Mastertune ($450 or so) which you can tune yourself using your laptop. There is also the PCV w/ the auto-tune add-on. What I understand aout the PCV w/autotune is that one you have your bike tuned, you remove the auto-tune module. $700 for both pieces seems a lot of dough (pcV $350...auto-tune model $350). I'd do some more research regarding which option is best for you and your bike.

I listened to your video. I hear you say that they aren't loud, but in your opinion how do they compare to the stock pipes? O-D seems to indicate they do noise up a fare amount. I really don't want to get them if their not different then the stock pipes.

Also, your decription says you have 1.75" baffles, but in the video you say 2", which one is correct? I'm assuming the 2" would be louder.
