I am still not sure about this. You ask if you change your exhaust will you need a tuner? If you just put on slipons then no. But if you put on a full free flowing exhaust then i thought you did. I have slipons and screaming eagle ac. I also went with the stage 1 download from harley. Now i am thinking of geting a full exhaust. I have been told by many that if i get a full exhaust system then you need some type of fuel managment or tuner. I was hoping at the time of getting the stage 1 download that could in the future upgrade to a full system.
so jkelley your saying if i bought vance and hines bigshots only then i dont need a tuner/programmer. But because i changed my filter and got the stage 1 download, now i would need a tuner if i bought an exhaust. Damn if this is true i would never of changed my filter. I spent 150 on the download and 220 on the air filter. What did the download do? I thought it adjusted the air/fuel because of the more open air filter. So now that the download compinsated for the air filter why couldnt i just run an open exhaust now. I think no matter what company you call they will always suggest a fuel managment or tuner.
The download is all you need for the stage 1 full exhaust change, you only need a tuner if a) You want to upgrade your engine stage 2,3 etc.
b) You want to dyno tune your stage 1(only recommended if you can find tuner that knows what they are doing) I have heard of using dealer tuners and actually losing HP and TQ #'s from the download.
I wondered about this. With cars, if we do exhaust OR an intake, no tune is needed but when you do BOTH you need to tune. I am assuming since Harleys run so lean to begin with that the exhaust doesn't affect much but the intake does since I see people saying that even if you do just an intake you need a tune.

Yes, your down load will put the bike roughly back to the lean condition it was in before you changed the exhaust, and the air cleaner. Putting a tuner on even a stock bike will be an improvement, and since you have already done a stage 1 then a tuner will only make the bike run like it should. There are many out there and in the hands of someone that knows how to use them they can get your bkie running very well.
