I have a 2011 SuperGlide Custom and I am having the brake light removed and filled as well as the license plate bracket holes. I was planning on installing the Auxiliary Brake Light conversion kit to turn the turn signals/running lights into the brake lights as well but now my local dealer does not know if it will operate correctly if the OEM tail light is removed.
Does anyone know if Harley part # 69462-06B will still work if I remove the OEM tail light? The Harley dealer in my area does not know.
I am new and searched the forum and could not find the answer, any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have the same conversion kit on my bike. try pulling the bulb,or the ground wire to see if they still light up. on mine though the running lites are good, turn signals are good but the brake light dont seem to be much brighter
Unfortunately the tins are already at the paint shop and they have started modding the back tin. The bike itself is sitting at the Harley dealer waiting for the parts to come back from paint.
I cannot seem to find an actual side mount plate with brake light that is actually made for a 2011 yet either. The Harley dealer said I could switch out my turn signals with the signals from a 2011 Wide Glide but then they don't know what wiring changes will need to be made. THey suggested this because the Wide Glide because has the dual filament bulbs.
I am getting nervous because when it comes back in a few weeks the OEM light will be gone and I need to have something ready to install so I can hit the road on my new bike.
The issue you may have is if you can get enough light from the 2 turn signal lights to be effective when braking. It is a risky proposition because I don't believe they will get bright enough. We need every advantage from cage drivers as we can get. You also may have to ignore the light out indicator because you have done away with the OEM brake light. I can not be sure but these may be your areas of concern. Good luck.
Yeah, I am starting to question this route but alas it is to late. At first Harley was saying it was going to be easy and then after sending it to paint they changed course. I ride at night to work so I have to at least have decent lighting. I know the Nightster, Wide Glide and Street Glide all have the bullet turn/brake/running lights its just figuring out how to get them onto my Super Glide without a) voiding the warranty and b) without costing a ton of money.
Have you thought of fitting LED clusters to the S/T/T lights ? I did this when i put on a chopped rear fender, then put the LED's in and what a difference, got mine from the states sent over to the UK. Had to do a few mods to the wiring to get them to work, but nothing too difficult.
Try this web site, I have an older super glide but they fit multiple years. They act as turn signal and brake lights bright as hell may work for your problem. I also added an aftermarket run brake turn signal module but with these lights you don't need to. You can wire the two wires right in should work pretty well.
Perhaps you can have a tail/brake light frenched in,a flush mount.Whatever you do you may want to wear a reflective vest at night as an added precautoin.
