Saddlebags would work well because the tent can lay across the seat and be anchored to the top of each bag then. Same thing with a sleeping bag.

Cabelas has great stuff for good prices. Be sure to read their reviews, as those can provide additional information.

I have saddlebags, and a Corbin Classic Solo (and also a Corbin Dual Tour) seat with backrest, and an Eagle Creek bag that has a sewn on section that slides tightly over the backrest back. with this set up I can pack clothes, tent, bedding, wet suit, etc. and it looks pretty tidy. Sure, not as much storage capacity as a tourer with Tour Pak, but enough for me for a cross-country trip. With my gal, that's not enough storage space for more than a one or two day trip.

Yep, my wife and I are riding from Denver, up through yellowstone and Glacier, then into Canada. then we'll be coming back down into Strugis for a few days.

Should be an awesome time.

Yeah, look into detachable bags dude, you're going to need them. Mine are hard mount, just because we ride together all the time and I have no problem with them. We do multi-hundred mile days nearly every weekend or two.

Are bags a little ugly on a Dyna? Sure. But no more than strapping a St Bernard sized bag to the back of the bike.

You don't need saddlebags if your riding solo. Spend the money on a nice sissy bar bag and get "hiking" camping gear. I got my tent and bag and a sleeping pad from REI. The hiking style camping gear is great cause it is designed to be small enough to pack on your back. Obviously I'm not camping in below freezing weather on the bike so this light weight stuff works great. Also don't over pack, 1 pair of jeans will probably get ya through the weekend.... so don't be like my wife and bring 4 of everything, for an over nighter. Here's a picture of my Dyna from a couple summers ago during a 5 day trip, living off the bike. I can also turn that bag around on the rack and the wife and I can head to the coast and pack enough to stay at a hotel for a couple days...

EDIT - Just saw that your taking a passenger. Get saddle bags then... or tell her that she's just gonna have to live with having a tent and some sleeping gear bunjee corded to her. LOL

Check http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/Main.aspx?

Great deals on some good gear, some of which will fit your needs.

Oh, and all saddle bags are detachable, one way or another. Once you get everything stowed nice and tight, in 'ready to boogie' mode, have your passenger jump on and make a test ride over some rough roads to make sure your shocks are going to handle the weight. Adjust them after one run, see how the ride feels. Its not like you can just keep tying stuff on, there are weight issues, center of gravity issues, balance issues and ride quality issues to consider for safety reasons.

For the most part I have to agree that bags on a dyna are ugly. But yours are nice looking to me. I just know i dont want to spend that kind of money, im sure. But i always try my best to look good. so ill have to get to shopping. maybe i can get a trade going for the 17 inch ape hangers i have for sale. ill have to figure something out then find out how about this dang tag bracket and light. any suggestions would be nice.

thinking about trying some of these. only 12 inches tall. might could still keep my same set up. and theres another guy on the forum that recommended these. he has the red dyna with the supercharger on it. im not a big leather fan so it may work.
