How about offering ABS as an option? Would buy new tomorrow if there was the ABS option on the DYNA. Not sure why HD is restriciting it to the softails and touring bikes when other manufactures put it on across the line. Maybe they will add as an option to the 2012 bikes. Am actually waiting to see if they do before I buy. If not may have to go with another brand as I really didn't what a big touring bike and prefer the DYNA's over the softails.

HD did offer a FXDS Convertable last offered back in 2000. Must not have been a big seller.
I remembers seeing a used black one with 10k miles on it for sale 2 years ago for $5000.

I agree with you. There's only $4K seperating the FXDC from a Heritage Classic or RKC. That's not a lot to work with if the goal is to come in at a price-point significantly below the two. You certainly couldn't accomplish that on your own, unless of course you bought all the bolt-ons used.

Default '05 FXDI "Convertible"

My (self-help) "convertible" busted that budget ... but, that was going a little further than the Road King, what with the fairing and lowers, motor work, etc. ....

I have been really pleased with the outcome ....

True. Looked at one when I bought my '00 FXDL. Salesman said they couldn't move them.

Great job! No matter which setup, it's a killer looking bike!

Romeo, the seat is the Sundowner from HD. I love it and sat in it for 750 miles in one day. Salt Lake to Portland Or.

Since I wasn't able to try or even see either the Sundowner or the Touring seat, it came down to a coin toss and I chose the Touring. The two seats are very similar, with the Touring's rider seat being about 1" narrower. I've been happy with it so far, but more importantly, so has my wife!

I bought mine for the Wife, and it turned out to be the best improvement for ME so far.

Mids were an option on fat Bobs in 2008-2009. None of them sold though.
Originally I thought I wanted mids, and that's what got me looking at the FXDFs. But the lack of legroom was just driving me crazy even on short test rides, so I went with forwards.
My compromise was to buy a set of mid pegs off of ebay. The idea was I could reach back and use the mid pegs for cornering, since you won't be shifting or dragging the rear brake during cornering.
In reality though there wasn't really a handling benefit. Mids still aren't far enough back to really put your weight on them and stand up in the seat. So they just got in the way a bunch.
Now I've got just the mounts without pegs. They don't get in the way nearly as much, and I can rest my heel on the back mount and my toe on the front peg for an alternate foot position. Works great.
