It is out of closed loop when you are accelerating. Aren't you? It is only in closed loop when you are at a steady cruise or idle. I would think because the narrow band sensor is just an on/off type O2.
You are not in closed loop as much as you think. I am thinking.

if that is the case it would be the only fi vehicle with o2 sensors that only work while at a cruise, and would be the stupidest closed loop system ever. Most closed loop systems send a message to the ecu hundreds of times every second.
The xIED's only work in closed loop. They will do nothing under heavy loads and WOT. The computer will simply revert to what is programed from the factory which will be too lean. You have spent thousands getting your bike and accessorizing it. Why cheap out now. Do it the right way. In the long run by the time you add up the time and money you spend on half *** fixes you may as well have done it tight the first time.
That's something of an exageration. You imply that in open-loop these bikes are setup as lean as closed-loop. In fact, because EPA testing doesn't apply at open loop, the AFR is much richer in open-loop. Typical AFRs in open-loop are 12.5 to 13.2 and no one will tell you that is lean!
I agree that its ideal from a performance perspective to go all the way and put in a tuned solution. However, an awful lot of people are quite happy with a stock bike and how it runs. For these people and those concerned with dropping the engine temp, richening the AFR in closed-loop for improved rideability and for long-term wear reduction there is nothing wrong with Xieds.
I appreciate all you're input fellas. And what foxster is saying is kinda what I was thinking, just didnt know the numbers. I think my bike runs like a beast, I just know that from plug inspection that I'm too lean.
If I thought finding and putting a stock intake back on it I would do that. And someday when I'm not working 60 hours a week, in the middle of planning a wedding, and trying to buy a house, I may take the time and spend the money on a pc3 or 5 when I put on a full exhaust system.
