The way I remember it from macroeconomics, where the money goes affects that countries GDP. If you buy a Harley, which is an American owned company, then you positively affect the GDP of the US. Likewise, if you buy a Honda, then you positively affect the GDP of Japan.

I love the way ya'll wave the flag when it comes to buying a bike, but think nothing of buying h-d jacket made in Pakistan or h-d t-shirt from some other 3rd world **** hole. How about the computer you're sitting behind? Where is that made? Check your socks and underwear and think of all the cotton mills all over the South .... how many of them still in business?
Even the Freightliner truck I'm driving.... I've picked up parts from Freightliner/Western Star plant in Portland Or and taken them to Laredo, Tx just to swap out trailers coming out of Mexico and going right back up to the Portland plant.
Like it or not, we are in global economy and we need to adapt and overcome or die. There is no way an average Joe making $15/hr can afford to buy bikes and cars built by Jimmy making $28/hr and delivered by a Teamster Jack making $25.
Ask me how I know and where my Teamster job went after almost 15 years in the Union .... We used to have over 400 road drivers in our Yellow yard and Roadway down the street had about 300. Half of those jobs are gone. Not to mention APA, Preston and CF that closed the doors for good.
Job before that was Penske Logistics. Teamsters replaced UAW plant drivers at GM and Ford. One summer we lost Ford account and about 70 drivers, then 2 years later they lost GM to a non-union carrier. Another 80 or so driver jobs and prob 50-60 dock and office jobs.

The computer I'm sitting in front of is made by Dell, granted many of the components are assembled over seas, its an American company, and the purchase of the Dell computer, the final product, is what affects the GDP of our Country. If I would of bought a Sony, then I would of been supporting Japans GDP. I don't own an HD jacket, but if I did, it still would of been benefiting my country. Its not necessarily where the components come from.. ****, they all come from the earth if you really think about it. Who owns it, who thought of it, and who is selling it is what matters.

We have a contract with HP and haul from LA and Sacto distribution centers to East coast. HP products come from the port into the centers in Chinese containers. Just like 90% of our freight.
