I am new to the forums and used ride when I was a teenager and want to get back into it.
I have been looking at the Dyna Models and have found that a lot of craigslist asking prices are a bit higher than than the NADA guide. I completely understand the whole "supply and demand" thing but I am just looking to see if I would potentially get screwed.
I found a 2003 superglide asking $8000. It is at a dealer, but it does not state which one (which does make me a bit hesitant). The NADA guides suggests a retail price of $6100.
Depending in the model dyna you are looking for that's in the right neighborhood. The 03's are a little more because the are anniversary models. It's supply and demand. Not to many clean ten year old dynas out there and the ones that are clean are asking 2k over nada. Just keep looking, everywhere! Sooner or later "your" bike will show up for your right price. Just don't expect it to be a fxdx or dxt model.
When I was shopping for my Dyna, people in this forum kept saying I could get a better deal. I NEVER found any deal like the people in this forum kept saying exist. They were off by a couple thousand dollars. I imagine you'd get a better deal up north, but down south here, we ride 11 months of the year.
Watch Cycle Trader and eBay. You'll get a pretty good sense of asking prices, what's a good deal and what isn't pretty quickly. Then, wait for the pricing anomaly.
You didn't say where you live but I just did a quicky craigslist search by me in Richmond. Took maybe ten seconds. These will save you a thousand to fifteen hundred over what the dealer wants on that 2003 and you haven't even tried to talk these sellers down. And you know they will move a bit more from asking price. Every seller does. So there you go. Thousands less without even trying.
