It's pretty easy, it was a one beer job for me. Ok maybe two beers. Follow the instructions that came with the grips and you should be fine. Be carefull not to drop the little brass furells thay can be hard to find.

Not bad, the service manual explains it. Be careful the lil brass furels don't fly away on ya.

A good trick that makes the right grip change a snap. Loosen the adjustment all the way on both throtle cables giving yourself as much slack as you can. A pair of needle nose pliers can be helpfull also when you detatch the brass ferrels and cable from the stock grips and connect to your new ones. You may want to mark the adjustment or nut position on the adjusters before you loosen them so they can be easily retightened to their original position.

You can do it!

Just did it on my 01. Like the rest of the posts said careful with the brass ferules. They are tiny and dissappear (hopeful not in the control). Another tip I heard of (after I did them) was to loosen the bar clamps and you can slide the handle bar in and just pull the assembly right off the bar after you loosen it. Sounds like it would be easier than playing with the carb side cables. Oh yeah another tip, count the threads on the adjusters on the throttle cables (idle and throttle). THis way when you back'em off you can put them right back where they were. Good time to lube cables as well. All in all it was 30min thing.

Be gentle when installing the cable/ferrules in your new grip slot. You don't want to crimp or crease you cable wire. A dab of grease can help keep the ferrule in place while you're trying to slip it in it's new home.

Follow the advise given........... The brass ferule is EXTREMELY hard to find. I lost one of mine on a black top surface, and it took me a week to find it.
