Default Vibration @ 42 MPH?

I have an 05 FXDWGI, am a new rider, and have a little over 200 miles on it.

I have noticed more & more, in third gear at around 40 - 45 mph, which should be ideal cruising on nice back roads, that I am getting a vibration (pegs, seat, etc.). At 35 mph or 50 mph in third it is fine.

I know these things are lean stock, and I do feel what seems like a "lean surge" also at times.

I suspect the engine it still tight, and I am going by the book for the first 500 miles, keeping the rpm's up, but not running it hard, and making sure I don't lug it. So, like 25 in first, 35 in second, and 40 - 50 in third. Mostly nice back roads where I can vary the speed.

Any thoughts, or is it just too new and this is normal?

I suspect since it's still new, everything is still tight and not broken-in. Don't be afraid to get on it a little, just don't peg the motor. Vary the revs up and down, especially down as this seems to help seal the rings.

At your 1000 mile insp. I would highly suggest going to stage 1 and SEII pipes, makes a world of difference.

I have a 01 Superglide T-sport with 30,000 miles and runs great with these mods.

btw, I had similar vibrations before I installed the Stage 1 and SEII's.

My bike is the opposite. Runs vibration free in first gear. Second gear it will run up to 30mph smoothly and then anything above that and it starts shaking pretty bad. Third gear is just a dream. 30mph - 50 mph it's smooth. I'm pretty sure I could even take it to higher speeds in third gear, but I don't.
