I wear a FF HJC CL15. I get pummeled by hard stuff coming off dump trucks, forest insect life, even birds sometimes. Wearing something for style around where I ride is idiotic. I don't think my insurance covers facial rearrangements either so full face it is. It actually makes riding more enjoyable. But I prefer my wife's Shoei FF.
Beastie, indeed sir! That is why after a short few weeks on my first bike ever I ditched the skid lid for a FF HCI. Not only is it fuggin cold here still in MN up north but I don't like getting hit with bugs at 75mph and I was thinking a rock to the face sure would suck. Im glad to see soo many fellow hd riders using the FF lids. And I know what you mean by makes it more enjoyable. I really started to hate riding already after just getting my first bike. Getting cold, insane wind noise and taking **** to the face sucked so much I almost said screw riding. Can't wait for my new FF to show up next week.
Another lid related subject here is noise. It doesn't matter what lid you wear, the decibel levels inside any lid are going to be well over the recognised safe acceptable limits. Ear plugs are a must and please take this as it's intended - good advice. I've spent years on bikes, years working in engineering and years playing in rock bands during my life. I only realised relatively recently what negative affect my lifestyle was having on my hearing and started wearing ear plugs about 7 /8 years ago. Unfortunately the damage was already done in my younger days and the tinitus manifested itself as I reached my late 40s. Anybody who suffers with this - and I'm guessing that seeing as how we're all bikers here that there'll be a few - will know how this messes up your head. I'm 60 now and all but lost the hearing in my left ear and the right is only working at about 60%. Within the next few years I'll be profoundly deaf. Not looking for sympathy here but it would be nice to know that my experience will help someone younger to decide to deal with the problem now before it's too late.

This is a good point. I wear earplugs if it's going to be a long trip. I keep a few in my saddlebags, it's not like they take up much space......
Shoei RF-1000 full face in matte black with spectragold shield.. Fits with both bikes.. ;-)
I've got the RF-1000 too, I want to pick up a new shield that's darker I was looking at the spectragold. How do you like it? I rock the FF whenever I've got a long trip or I know I'll encounter larger # of bugs.
I rock my Gold flake Bell 500 with a bronze bubble shield around town and to work (all city)
I just bought a Shoei 1000, full face in silver to match my bike. Wind noise was my biggest complaint. I like to listen to my ipod while riding and the Shoei eliminate alot of it.
I have two helmets: A FF for when I am commuting to work and when I am cruising around the more populated areas. When I travel SW from my house I hit farmland and I will use a half-helm in the warmer months as it's more enjoyable (except the damn bugs).
As for earplugs I agree fully. I actually wear a pair of custom headphones by sleek-audio that are molded to fit my ears. The manufacturers estimate that the reduction in noise is about 30db. The other benefit is I can play music through them while riding (legal in michigan). I keep it at a low volume and can still hear the music and what's going on around me. I actually hear better with them in than without them.
