Default Silly Question You Can All Help Me With

I'm setting up my first Harley still. Later today or tomorrow I want to hook up a harness to the battery to power my GPS and to plug the bike in during the winter. I've done it on other bikes but I am just wondering if anybody can save me some time with the best way to access the battery terminals on a 2011 Fat Bob?

Does the battery have to be taken out, moved, etc. to get to the terminals? Do I go through under the seat or from the side? Also anything I ought to know about wiring it up with a harness before I fry it or myself?

Thanks!

mine came new with battery tender installed. It is a straight forward job, pull battery cover, loosen bolt, instale wire tighten bolt.

Thanks, so you can get at it from the side rather than going down under the seat? Somebody had said you have to take off the seat, loosen some support to tilt it out to get to it...that seemed like a lot so I wanted to verify...

That is how pre-06 Dynas are built.
They changed the battery box in 06. Just take the cover off.

OK so it was easy to get to the battery. However, snaking the GPS power cable under the tank and up into the box under the seat is a different story...what the hell. Do you guys think I need to take the tank off?

It seems like the power cord running under the tank close to the cylinder heads would be to hot? Any advice?

Taking the tank off is the easiest way to go. I had to run wires from the battery to the handlebars. It took me an hour off and back on. Just take your time and follow the instructions in the maintenance manual. If you are going to take the tank off make sure the fuel pump fuse is pulled and you start it to purge pressure from lines.

Should be no need to remove tank.
There should be cables running along side the main rib, between it and the tank. Run the new wire with them and secure with ty-wraps.
