Went to local shop to see about some slip-ons, k&n a/c, and power commander. Tech says it wont run any better/cooler temp unless I do the headers. True? Slip-ons just make noise. I have 2011 sg custom.
It depends on the slip ons. Your difference in performance is because of the different types on baffles in the slip ons. My bike felt like it ran better with the V&H slip ons vs the Screaming Eagle slip ons that came on my bike. That was without a PCV or AC.
Now I have the a full exhaust (V&H shortshots), PCV and a/c and the bike pulls stronger and I can shift earlier without bogging. But I lost 10mpg.
IMO opinion the only time it's a waste of money is if you plan on getting a full exhaust later. I'm impatient, so I got the slip ons in the classifieds here on the forum and then found a great deal on shortshots. Sold the slip ons in the classifieds for the same price I bought them for and so no waste of $$$ for me just shop around and keep an eye out on ebay and the classified here on the forum and you'll be fine. If you don't want a full exhaust in the future get the slip ons and save the cash, or buy them used.
I installed Rush slip-ons and then pulled one of the baffles from the stock HD mufflers. If I were home right now, I'd take a few pictures. Looking at the stock muffler design, as compared to the Rush mufflers, it's obvious that it's opening things up.
However, if all you do is install slip-ons, with no other mods, I doubt you'll see any performance gains.
Regardless, most of us want our bikes to sound like a Harley, and that was my primary reason for installing the Rush mufflers.
Find some used slip-on mufflers. They're everywhere. People are constantly changing exhaust systems and selling what they had before.
I call BS on this one. Before I did my stage one AC, slip ons and tts master tune my bike would run really hot and I would get a ton of decel pop, bike was almost unridable. after doing those few little mods and having the bike tuned it's a night and day difference. As far as performance goes you can't do any better than slip ons, till you do a 2-1 pipe, and most of the good ones are big bucks. the rb racing is my next up grade when the time comes. i hope i don't miss my cycle shack slip ons
I have a 2011 Wide Glide and I put 3" Rush slip-on's with 2.25" baffles.
If you're looking for performance increase, maybe a little because exhaust side of the engine can breathe better. Performance increases are usually a
the cumulative effect of multiple upgrades. If you're looking for sound quality - GO FOR IT. The full length 3" with the big baffle give a deep 'loud', quality sound to the bike.
