As most of the comments state you can do your own service I just would keep records of when you have done it with the mileage for any discrepancies, as to the muffler and air cleaner it wont void your warranty as both dealers and an owner of a indy shop has told me but i've had conflicting answers on the PC-V
The 1000 mile service is one of the few services that I would strongly recommend. They check alot of bolts and adjustments that might have shifted since it rolled off the assembly line. My throttle had to much play for my liking. Without me mentioning it. The Dealership removed most of the play during the 1000 mile service.
key words of the phrase "SHOULD" not must be taken to an auth. HD blasa blasa blasa..... If you keep your bill of sales for oils and other preventative maintenance stuff and the dealer wants to be a MFer get the store owner and MoCo involved.... I am convinced that the service guys that work for HD 90% of the time do not know which way is up. I get that are you sure dude feeling when I talk to them. The number one reason why I use Indy shops
thats all dealer BS,, of course you can do your own service and it will not affect your warranty what so ever,,,

I work for an auto dealer. You can do all the engine mods and service you want. You will always have a full warranty unless your service work or engine mod was the direct cause of the failure.

The 1000 mile service was the only time that I let the dealer touch my bike. It is well worth the money to let them go through it and make sure everything is snugged up as it should be. You have to remember that they let the 18 year old kids assemble the bikes at the dealership. Sometimes they don't quite pay attention to details and things are not up to par.
As far as major mods go. I didn't crack into the motor until the 2 year warranty was up. After that, I figured it was time to squeeze some ponies out of it and boy am I glad I did it.
plus one as long as you can show receipts warranty is good, these guys overseas must just have different rules, i did a 95 build first year and i am talking v/h long shots no baffles, ect and had warranty work done on bike hell dealer dosen`t care he makes money doing work
Mine is scheduled to go in on Friday for my 1k mile service. I figure this should be the only time i have them service it. Hopefully they do a full 1k service like the manual says and not just change the fluids and assume everyting is ok.
