Default 23 mpg?

What am I doing wrong? 2003 lowrider just over 10,000 miles. Previous owner put on screaming eagle pipes and air cleaner kit. It took a long time to warm up so I rejetted to 48/195. That cured the warm up problem, however I am only getting 23 mpg. Even in the hills of Pittsburgh that's ridiculous. I don't roll on the throttle very much at all, so it's not me running the revs too high. I didn't check the mileage before I rejetted so I don't know if the jets made that much of a difference in mileage. From what i am hearing, I should be getting about twice the mileage. I am going to put the stock jets back in and see if that makes a difference. Anynother ideas? Can't live with hitting reserve @ 85 miles!

Your jetting specs seem to be close for what is recommended for your application. In my experience the larger pilot is crucial for your area/ elevation and setup. You may however be able to start going smaller on your mainjet until you realize a performance loss and then go back up a size. This will retain the easy starting and off idle performance and still maxiimize your mileage.

I dont see any reason that you couldnt get another 6-8 MPG from going this route. What was your stock mainjet size?

Any of you Steelers out there have some MPG numbers this fella can shoot for? What jets are you guys running?

Stock jets were 45/190. Oh yeah with the new jets the mixture screw is out 2 1/2 turns

Whats your elevation? I am reading up on your model bike and guys say they are getting high 30MPGs almost 40 from that bike. The higher you go in elevation the leaner the carb has to be setup due to the lower air density.

Hopefully someone from Pittsburgh will drop some jet info.

wrong... The higher the elevation, the richer the bikes run. no need to run more than the stock 45 or a 46 for low speed jet. Then adjust idle mixture somewhere between 2-3.5 turns out depending on elevation and intake and exhaust.

Yes, Thats what I meant in that post. The higher up the leaner the carb needs to be setup. Suggesting that he may be running rich at his elevation with his current setup. Edited my above post to clarify and avoid confusion.

Since you said you don't run high RPM's, how low do you run? Too low of RPM's when cruising can diminish MPG because of low vacuum. You should be cruising in the 2400-2800 range for best MPG. You MPG still seems very low though.
