New noise coming from the primary
1st.. he asked for our opion,
"I need to know what you all think this could be..."
2nd.. Very unlikely (not impossible), but very unlikely, that an IPB problem would show its self at 2300 miles.
"When I got it last year, it had only 1500 miles on it. There is now only 2300 miles on it" (I find this suspect on an almost 6 year old bike anyway)
3rd.. You state that his discription is 'consistent with many others who have had IPB failure'
"Its a very loud chirping noise"
"It only does this when the bike is moving and gears are engaged"
"When I pull up to a light and stop, the noise stops"
Now I very well could be wrong, but of all the hundreds of IPB posts I have read on this forum, I dont recall a seeing any of those description refering to IPB faliure..
While 'chirping' is a tell-tell sound of a belt drive problem..
You state that 'his description of a chirp noise is consistent with many others who have had the IPB fail"
I would be interested in seeing your references.
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
klunky rattle at idle in primary = rotor/stator/compensator
screeching like a metal rollerskate wheel on concrete = IPB
BTW, MoCo did my IPB complete with new cases last year. The bearing screches until you drop it into 1st gear then it stops. That is how you and everyone within 200ft of your bike knows it is the IPB.
