Had that sort of problem on the road a few years ago in Sturgis, bike started to chirp. Pulled the primary and all checked out. finally realized the belt was loose from ride across country towing a trailer, a little adjustment and all was fine..

Not true, mine is a late build (4-06) and none of the issues were addressed at the factory. My IPB failed and shortly after the rotor failed destroying the stator. The trans case and the inner primary didn't have the dowels or provisions for them.

For all those who bring up the belt tension etc.the OP said the noise is constant now. And his description of a chirp noise is consistent with many others who have had the IPB fail.

Could be the rotor coming loose... it's not a big deal to pull your primary cover and check stuff.

Not trying argue with you, but, Lets review the OP.
1st.. he asked for our opion,
"I need to know what you all think this could be..."

2nd.. Very unlikely (not impossible), but very unlikely, that an IPB problem would show its self at 2300 miles.
"When I got it last year, it had only 1500 miles on it. There is now only 2300 miles on it" (I find this suspect on an almost 6 year old bike anyway)

3rd.. You state that his discription is 'consistent with many others who have had IPB failure'
"Its a very loud chirping noise"
"It only does this when the bike is moving and gears are engaged"
"When I pull up to a light and stop, the noise stops
"

Now I very well could be wrong, but of all the hundreds of IPB posts I have read on this forum, I dont recall a seeing any of those description refering to IPB faliure..
While 'chirping' is a tell-tell sound of a belt drive problem..

You state that 'his description of a chirp noise is consistent with many others who have had the IPB fail"
I would be interested in seeing your references.

sounds to me like you should look at the compensator my friend and check to see if the primary chain tensioner is in need of adjustment. Just take the primary cover off and give it a look... or have a mechanic do it. Either way, that's a bad noise.

Chirp = Belt too loose/tight or out of alignment
klunky rattle at idle in primary = rotor/stator/compensator
screeching like a metal rollerskate wheel on concrete = IPB

BTW, MoCo did my IPB complete with new cases last year. The bearing screches until you drop it into 1st gear then it stops. That is how you and everyone within 200ft of your bike knows it is the IPB.
