I was out for a ride today and encountered a problem - all of a sudden the bike will momentarily shut down for a second or two and then fire back up for a while until it does it again, this process kept repeating until, luckily I made it home. (The bike has not been wet for ages so it is not water ingress).
It seems to me like an electrical problem - ignition or fuel injection maybe?
My bike is a 2007 FXDC fitted with Power Commander 3 and has ran faultlessly for the past two years.
Does anybody have any suggestions, similar experiences maybe to help me pinpoint and fix my problem please?
If the bike just shuts down, no sputtering than you are looking at electrical issue. Do you hear anything popping or clicking? I say this because it might be the circuit breaker popping and resetting. I would also remove the PC3 as I have seen a few threads were the PC had died or malfunctioned causing the bike to die and then fire up latter on. Of course you should check the basics, fuses aren't blown and that the fuse block is not corroded. Check the battery cables and make sure they are tight and that the battery is in good condition. Check the connection between the PC3 and the ECM for any signs of corrosion or damage. I would also pull the plugs and see how they look. If they are black or sooty they are not firing correctly and I would check the wires and coils next. And lastly but maybe first sid you check for any error codes?
My 09 dyna was doing the same thing last week. Just cut-out once in a while but was getting more frequent. After a lot of searching the only thing I could find was maybe a slightly loose battery cable. Since cleaning and retightening alls been good so I'm almost sure that was the problem.
I had the same problem and after reading on one guy having the same issues and go around with the dealer he found it to be the system relay corroding.
I had spare relays and changed both. Not expensive.
I made sure to use dielectric grease on the contacts.
Well my bike is fine now and it's an 09. I do get it very wet in the rain though.
Just purchased new relays for spares again. A must.
