Default This or That?

Today is the day: bike purchase.

Right now it's between a stock 2007 Street Bob, 96cu, 6 speed with 19,000 miles or a 2003 Dyna Low Rider with 2,500 miles. Low rider has all the fixings: 2 up seat, security system, windshield, Rinehart 2-2 exhaust BUT its the 5 speed 88cu carb engine.

They're both the same price, the Low Rider is much nicer but the whole carb thing throws me off. I've ridden nothing but EFI. I'm in San Diego so i don't think "cold start up" would be a huge issue and I'm at sea level so altitude shouldn't be a big deal either.

Anyone have any opinions or pros and cons that might help? Has anyone ridden both engines? Feedback please?!

Here's a photo of the Low Rider:

EFI definately requires less rider involvement but that doesn't make it superior. I am a fan, however, of the 96"/6 speed. The extras aren't really worth much on the 2003. In what respect is the Low Rider "much nicer"? If you are after a certain look, the year, powertrain and mileage don't really matter. The fact that they are both the same price tells me either the 2007 is a bargain or the 2003 is overpriced. I wouldn't pay more than $8500 for the 2007, maybe less depending on your LOCAL economy.

yeah it's tough...i can get either a newer, more basic bike, or a bit older bike with all the bells and whistles. the 2003 is practically brand new... 2500 miles? Insane?

on the bob mods would be: 2 up seat, passenger pegs, exhaust, high flow air filter, power commander, forward controls, windshield

Lowrider is pretty much good to go, maybe some mini apes or something but not bad at all. If it was EFI it would be my #1 choice.

like was stated either the 07 is a GREAT deal or the 03 is GREATLY overpriced.

You need to factor in a lot of things:
age
motor (carb sounds better, but IMO EFI is superior. my bike is this first efi i have owned and i wil not go back to carb)
resale value
etc.

the 07 has more miles which might just mean it was owned by an actual rider. someone who appreciated & took advantage of what he had. But that doesn't necessarily mean it was taken care of.

My honest opinion, if you're not already sold on the 07 (to me, there would be no comparison, but i love the newer bikes), offer at least a thousand dollars less on the 03 as there is no reason they should be the same price. See how much the seller is willing to budge on it. If he's not, give the 07 a thorough lookover & go with your gut from there.
