Default swing arm cracked ...
I was lookin over my bike yesterday ....had some gum on back of rear fender .thought I had some on my swingarm ..it was cracked ..parallel to the axle ..on primary side ..it is a Chrome swingarm ..thought it might be the Chrome flaking ..nope ..cracked ..got another on the way ...anyone ever broke their swing arm...?

no. Hope thats limited to chrome stuff, as I just lengthened mine by six inches.

wow! just goes to show ya... someone needs to start selling a casted swing arm like on the xr1200...

Holy cow! That sucks. I assume if its chrome its aftermarket and not a MOCO part, but thats something that should NEVER break.

thats chrome,the chroming process can cause hydrogen embrittlement in steel, as they say chrome don`t get you home

Yeah ..its a HD piece ...been on for bout 10 yrs though ..its a 01 fxdl ...got 68000 miles on her ..

Got swingarm changed out ...a word of advice ..as part of servicing sometime around when your bike gets 50000 miles on ..check the swingarm bearings...mine were a lil on dry side ..I should've checked them back in Sept.when I put tires on ..that's not why it cracked ..just some advice ...be careful ..rubber down ..knees up .l8tr

Cracked swing arm is a known problem to HD. In 2002 they beefed up the ones on the FL series as those tended to crack more often due to extra weight. I have changed the one on my '01 to and '02 to avoid the possibility of cracking.
