Well first off, I thought I had an acct. on here, but I couldn't remember my log on! So let me do a quick intro before my question.
Picked up my 2011 FXDWG from Rawhide H-D in Olathe KS. Lovin' it! I've only done a few cosmetic things to it so far. (Grips, shifter and brake pad). Put some V&H slip ons on it which sounds A LOT better than the stock. So it's coming along. I recently added the good old quick release kit and the turn signal (rear) relocation kit. Not a hard add, although I could use an extra 6 inches of wiring on each side. Which brings me to my question.
I was thinking of purchasing the "old style" back rest. Part number 51161-10. But I didn't know if you could put a luggage rack on with it.
So my questions are: Does anyone have this set up? And in general, what other options have you added to your WG to ride 2 up with at least a couple of bags?
Thanks! I am appreciating the heck out of these forums! GREAT tips!
I tried this set up but the luggage rack does not connect to the sissy bar. The rack that works with this set up is hard mounted and I didn't like the look when I removed the sissy bar. I went the other way with the rack attached to the bar so when I removed it, they both came off. Doesn't look as cool but when on, but detaches easy.
OTB didn't say if he used the HD parts but the Hd backrest is 51168-10 and the detachable side plates are 52124-09. And the luggage rack for that model is 54049-10. These are all gloss black, of course. They have chrome if you want. Backrest 52877-10
Detach side plates 52866-06
Luggage rack 54055-10
Have to check with the dealer on the backrest pad. I think there's a typo in the new catalog and I can't match the part number for the pad to the backrest.
I'm gonna get the black setup. Already ordered the one piece from B@d@ss Chrome and due to their customer service I cancelled the order. It leaves a little to be desired. Call and talk to them and they say we'll call you back and let you know then never hear from them. The original problem was the item was on back order, but they didn't have the common decency to let me know. So I'm shopping around again and going to get the setup I described above. I eventually saw all the bad reviews on this forum so I'm done with them.
Yes, I went with the HD setup with the part numbers that Jack listed. I have done several trips with this set up and it works well. The best part is that everything comes right off so I have a clean back end for cruising around town.
Hey, thanks y'all. That sounds like the set up I'll probably go with as well. Went down to Rawhide and looked at some of the set ups that they had on the used bikes. I believe I've found one that's similar if not the set up described above. I have not used them yet, but I've found pretty good prices on Surdyke.com. Now the hard part. Saving the $$.
