Sooo, while the general readership is either asking how to lower their bike, how fat of tire they can fit, how high they can go with apes, bragging about their blacked-out tail lights or showing how cool their bike looks after removing the reflectors or otherwise following the crowd in search of approval.... Filthpig extends his swingarm!! How dare he do something that deviates from the follow-the-crowd mentality!
I'm with Filthpig on this one. He can change back if things don't work out, he didn't cut the struts off or ruin his bike, but it's his bike anyway to do with it as he wishes. If and when he gets this thing dialed in, it will be a one-of-a-kind bike, not some copycat ride that everyone seems to try to do, then pat themselves on the back for "originality".
I like his idea of going outside the norm, just for the sake of it. If it turns like a bus, it will still outcorner a chopper with 12" extended forks. He can also put a monster engine in it without too much concern of having the front end lift too fast for him. One thing for sure...his bike won't look like every other aped, slammed, blacked out, raked out or any other copy cat bike out there that has been done over and over again to the point of boredom. No cookie cutter here!
Just realize, Filthpig, that the stakes have been set high. I expect to see a class ride when you are done. I know that you have a lot of work ahead of you. I hope that you either have the skills or money to pull this thing off. Just do it right.
If the rear shocks don't work out for you, Ricor might be able to build you a pair. They build custom shocks and are an easy phone call away.
Looks like your biggest problem will be lack of ground clearance when turning, but it certainly has a unique presence.
How'd you come by a long belt that worked for this? And did you give any thought to converting to chain?
I like it. Way to just go for it. I am looking forward to seeing the finished product. I certainly dont have the ***** to do it to my bike but I think its bad *** that you did. When I get a few years on mine then the TIG torch and grinder will come out.....lol
I think It's bad ***. Obviously some people don't understand that everyone doesn't have the same opinions on things, Everyone doesn't ride the same, and they also think apes arent functional. Lol. Keep up the good looking work, and be safe.
