Default 2" or 3" tank lift

Trying to decide between the two lifts. I drive an 07 street bob. If you guys could point out some differences that would be great.

The biggest difference would probably be the 3" lift is an inch higher than the 2" lift.

I started with a 2" and saw an extra inch would clear. Installed the 3" and gave the 2" to my ol' man.
My recommendation - go with the 2" as the 3" has very tight tolerences. (wire length, fuel cross over clamping, triple tree clearance.)

Agreed. The 2" is about as little as can be done due to interferences, that's why 1" and 1-1/2" lifts aren't offered. The 3" is a bit extreme and uneccessary as it also causes more fitment problems and way out of whack gas guage readings.

Though the tank lift is normally considered a cosmetic improvement, I did it just as an experiment in wind dynamics. I ran a windshield and had my mustache blowing up my nose. I raised and lowered the 'shield, then tilted it fore and aft. I finally raised the tank 2" and the wind dynamics changed for the better.

With the 2" tank lift I still get decent gas gauge readings, etc., etc. I really haven't seen a downside to the mod. I just made the lift with 1/8 x 3/4 inch aluminum bar. I did it as a test, intending to make some solid ones later, but later has yet to come. They work for me and they were free. I have a lot of aluminum and steel angle, rods, bars, shapes and sheets in my scrap pile.

I just went from a 2 inch to a 3 inch.

the 2 inch is better than stock & the 3 is better than two in my opinion.

I dont have any pics of the 3 inch, but they are all over the forum & ebay.

2 inch is the most popular & i had no complaints about it, but i think the 3 looks perfect.

most gas gauges suck, but my stock fxd gauge seems pretty accurate with & without the lft.

I had a 3" lift. After over a year with it, I decided it was too much and cut it down and welded it as a 2".

2" seems to keep the bottom of the tank level with the backbone and looks the best.
