Exclamation Need some help here guys!!! Wiring issue!!

Ok I am in the middle of replacing my handlebars and come to a bit of a pinch. Everything is long enough except the wires for the left side. I pulled very gently on the right side and got enough slack to come up so I could run the wires through the handlebars, but the left side only moved a couple of inches. I tried taking the tank off, but that flippin crossover line has me in a bind, I don't have anything to replace it and the tank is almost full. What would you guys suggest? Would it be acceptable to splice the wires and just make them longer or wait and go to the auto parts store tomorrow and get a new crossover line?

If u disconnect the fuel line quick disconnect, then cover the rocker boxes with a towel u can unbolt the tank and slide it back to get to the that hold the plastic cover on the underside of the frame neck... Once that's out u can disconnect the connectors for the wiring..

Yeah I tried that but the tank wouldn't move back to far due to the wires running under the dashboard. How far back are the connectors? Just trying to figure out how I am gonna get them through the handlebars.

The connectors a are right under the plastic cover behind the neck. Once you get that off its easy to disconnect the connectors so u can disassemble them.. I wound up taking the tank off, I cut the clamp on the crossover and used a funnel and a hose to let it drain into a gas can..

Nothing wrong with cutting and splicing... if you do it correctly. With all the different connectors and shrink wrap out there today it is a simple job and works just as well if not better than originals stretched to their max.

That just tells me that either you do not know how to do proper splicing or you are living in the dark ages ie wiring.

There is no reason to remove your tank, for a handlebar swap.

The harness is mushed in the backbone. Remove the black plastic cover that is on the underside of the backbone, above your front cylinder. Just untangle the mess. The wire is there.
